Away From it All!

We arrived at Three Lakes today and it's just as gorgeous as it looked online! We're staying at a campground at one of the lakes and it's so convenient. They have the camp already set up, so all you have to do is reserve one of the colorful tents! There are some nice hotels in the area too. We visited one that was in a log cabin. It had a nice combination of comfortable furnishings while still feeling a bit rustic-like antler decorations hanging on the wall and a giant wooden bear sculpture that reminds you that the mountains are home to other creatures too. But we wanted to "rough it" here to be closer to nature, so we've opted for the campground.

Zach and I went on a bird-watching expedition as soon as we'd checked in. The mountain air is so fresh and the sounds of birds singing really did wonders for our stress levels-which, as you well know, we both sorely needed! We did have one minor run-in with nature though when Zach stumbled into some poison ivy. It looks like Mr. Mountaineer wasn't quite as plant-savvy as he was making himself out to be!

We met another couple tonight and chatted with them around the campfire while toasting marshmallows. They told us about a place nearby where we can actually try logrolling, so that's on our agenda for tomorrow. Better get some shut-eye now-the days start early here in the mountains!
